Coming of Age Day is the time for 20-year-olds in Japan to get together and celebrate because they are now adults. Many young women dress up in beautiful kimonos and get up early to get their hair done at the beauty salon. When they show me their photos, I don't always recognize them because they look so different. This year, the new adults dressed up, but many couldn't get together. Their towns and cities canceled the special events or had them online. Even when the events were held, they were advised not to go out with their friends. It is so difficult being young in a pandemic!
